The Governor of Lemhannas RI, Dr. H. TB. Ace Hasan Syadzily, M.Si., signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Head of the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia (ANRI), Dr. Mego Pinandito, M.Eng. at the Konstitusi Room of Lemhannas RI on Monday (2/23). The agreement extends a partnership previously established in 2012 and 2019.
The MoU covers efforts to enhance human resource capacity through education and training, conduct strategic studies and strengthen national values, facilitate information exchange, develop archival administration and utilize static archives through exhibitions and joint publications. The event also included the handover of static archives and the signing of an institutional commitment to the National Movement for Archival Awareness and Order (GNSTA / Gerakan Nasional Sadar Tertib Arsip).
“Geopolitical and economic dynamics have elevated archiving beyond mere administrative work, positioning it as a strategic state function and an instrument of information sovereignty,” The Governor said. He added that Lemhannas remains committed to improving accountability and professionalism in managing archives as a source of public information and as an authentic and reliable collective memory of the nation. Therefore, the MoU should be implemented through consistent and tangible actions rather than remaining ceremonial.
A total of 16 static archives were handed over during the event, along with the signing of the GNSTA commitment at Lemhannas RI. The initiative follows recommendations from the 2025 archival supervision. The archives are expected to be utilized through historical exhibitions and joint publications between Lemhannas RI and ANRI. “I hope archiving will receive greater attention in the future, particularly regarding administrative order within Lemhannas RI, and that the handover of static archives will continue as part of efforts to safeguard state archives,” the Governor said.
“Lemhannas had left a valuable legacy of memory for the country, particularly for future generations,” Dr. Mego Pinandito, M.Eng. said. He noted that the MoU reflects the continued commitment of both institutions, each of which carries significant responsibilities. As the institution mandated to preserve archives and safeguard the nation’s collective memory, ANRI is responsible for maintaining historical records as a source of learning for the future, including strategic policy records issued by state institutions.
Mego Pinandito, M.Eng. also said Lemhannas had fulfilled its obligation under Law No. 43/2009 on Archives, which requires state institutions to transfer static archives to ANRI. “As the national archival authority, we express our highest appreciation for the efforts undertaken by Lemhannas in the field of archiving,” he said.
The National Movement for Archival Awareness and Order represents a collective commitment among state institutions to ensure that governance processes are documented in an authentic, comprehensive and accountable manner. The initiative aims to preserve archives as instruments of leadership continuity and to support more precise policymaking. “From a well-preserved collective memory emerges a resilient nation capable of facing the future,” r. Mego Pinandito, M.Eng. concluded.(NA/CHP/MDF)
