Lemhannas RI, Ministry for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers Sign MoU

Lemhannas RI signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI) at the Constitution Room of the Trigatra Building on Tuesday (5/5). The MoU serves as a framework for cooperation and aims to strengthen institutional relations between the two organizations.

"This event reflects the shared commitment of Lemhannas RI and KP2MI to build collaboration through various joint programs in accordance with our respective duties and functions to help achieve national goals and implement the government's programs," said Governor of Lemhannas RI Dr. H. TB. Ace Hasan Syadzily, M.Si., in his opening remarks. He added that the collaboration is intended to strengthen national resilience in support of achieving the nation's goals and President Prabowo Subianto's priority programs.

The Ministry for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI) is a strategic institution responsible for protecting Indonesian migrant workers, including overseeing their placement and providing legal, economic and social protection for migrant workers and their families. Throughout 2025, Indonesian migrant workers contributed an estimated Rp 430 trillion to Rp 433 trillion in foreign exchange earnings, making them one of the country’s largest sources of foreign exchange after the oil and gas sector. This reflects the strong global demand for Indonesian workers.

The Governor of Lemhannas RI also praised the rebranding initiative introduced by KP2MI Minister Mukhtarudin, which aims to prepare Indonesian migrant workers for leadership positions in other countries. “Any efforts to encourage Indonesian migrant workers to pursue employment in the formal sector must also be accompanied by measures to strengthen their national character,” the Governor said.

According to the Governor, Indonesian migrant workers represent the country’s high-quality human resources, as envisioned under the government’s Asta Cita agenda. Amid increasingly dynamic global geopolitical challenges, Indonesia needs human resources who possess not only technical competence and global competitiveness but also strong national character, a resilient sense of nationalism and a solid understanding of national resilience.

The memorandum of understanding signed by Lemhannas RI and KP2MI covers cooperation in enhancing the quality of human resources through leadership education and National Values Consolidation training programs, organizing academic activities and strategic policy studies, as well as exchanging and utilizing data and information. As part of the initial implementation of the partnership, the two institutions plan to provide orientation sessions for Indonesian migrant workers.

"Lemhannas has developed a special curriculum that is concise yet capable of strengthening the nationalism of Indonesian migrant workers before they depart overseas by providing education on national values, because they serve as ambassadors of the nation while working abroad," the Governor explained. The two institutions will also explore opportunities for cooperation in other areas, including joint studies on policies concerning the protection and placement of Indonesian migrant workers, as well as sending KP2MI officials to participate in the P3N and P4N leadership education programs at Lemhannas RI.

KP2MI Minister Mukhtarudin also expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the Governor of Lemhannas RI for the joint efforts to support the government's national priority programs. He hopes that Indonesian migrant workers would be equipped with a stronger understanding of national values so that their love for the country and sense of nationalism would remain intact and not be eroded or influenced by the cultures, ideologies and perspectives they encounter while working abroad.
