Leadership is the key to the success of an organization, without strong leadership, it is impossible for an organization to achieve its desired goals," said the Governor of Lemhannas RI Dr. H. TB. Ace Hasan Syadzily, M.Si. while giving a lecture on leadership in the Preparation and Consolidation Education for the National-level Leaders (P4N) batch 68 in the NKRI Room on Wednesday (19/3).
In the lecture given, the Governor of Lemhannas RI wanted to ensure that Lemhannas RI education participants as prospective national leaders can become leaders who understand about current developments as an essential factor in making policies.
Continuing his lecture, the Governor of Lemhannas RI said that a leader is a driving figure for the running of an organization. "A leader who is silent does not mean not moving, but is calculating the right steps in moving the organization," said the Governor of Lemhannas RI. Therefore, a leader must be able to encourage the subordinates he leads.
Regarding the character of global leadership, leaders stand with their respective characters, such as having a major impact on global control, being able to determine the direction of the world, being able to make the right decisions and being able to change the direction of world politics, economy, and society, and being able to increase the strength of their country to influence world dynamics.
Continuing his presentation, the Governor of Lemhannas RI emphasized that a leader must be able to read the current conditions of the times. Regarding global political and security conditions, the things highlighted include the United States' (US) siding with Russia and the plan to end the conflict with Ukraine, Europe's priority on defense to anticipate reduced US attention, the potential for violent control of territory in Greenland, turmoil in Congo, civil war in Syria, US attacks on Yemen, and others.
Regarding economic conditions, things that need to be considered are unilateralism and protectionism that have led to supply chain disruptions, slowing global economic growth, trade wars that have triggered a weakening of the world economy, the imposition of import tariffs, gold and crypto becoming safe haven asset trends, the imbalance in the speed of China's industrialization, and others.
Furthermore, another serious challenge is climate change. The trend happening today is the US leaving the Paris Agreement, major fires in the US, Brazil, and Canada, extreme weather in Europe, the potential for increased carbon trading, and others. Other issues that must be considered are global health issues and technological disruption related to semiconductor wars, quantum technology, advances in artificial intelligence, and others.
Talking about leadership in the era of disruption, a leader must be able to face technological changes, face business uncertainty, compete internationally, build innovative leadership, build digital human resources, be oriented towards leadership values and ethics, pay attention to the values of the millennial generation, generation Z, and changes in work paradigms, and carry out change management and organizational resilience. "The most important thing as a national leader is to have a leader with character, firmly uphold the principles of nationality, not pragmatic. Don't let us all become pragmatic. This is the character of the leader we hope for in the future," said the Governor of Lemhannas RI.
To build future leaders, start by creating a concept of future leadership, namely visionary, adaptive, and innovative, which emphasizes readiness to face change, team empowerment, and the application of sustainability values and collaboration in decision making.
Furthermore, the Governor of Lemhannas RI emphasized that good leadership is a leader with character. A leader with character must be based on upholding values, being open-minded, transforming values, and being adaptive. Leadership with character is important to realize transparency and accountability in its organization, and based on values for sustainable development.
In line with the importance of leadership with character, in producing prospective national leaders, Lemhannas RI has developed several strategies, namely providing an understanding of geopolitical and geostrategic insights, internalizing national values that are sourced from 4 basic national consensuses, developing multicultural competencies, education, gradual, tiered and sustainable training, utilization of technology and innovation, and adaptation of leadership style to the development of the times.
